NAMM 2014: Bohemian Guitars Turn Oil Cans Into Music Makers

The entirety of the music industry descended on Anaheim, CA last week for the 2014 National Association of Music Merchants convention, or NAMM for short, and amidst the ocean of gorgeous guitars & drums we were like kids in a musical candy store, scoping the latest tech developments and offerings from every facet of the trade.

In addition to getting product-profile updates on guitars, amps, synthesizers and more, we spent some time with unique new models from Bohemian Guitars. Made from repurposed gas cans, oil cans and even maple syrup containers, these instruments aren’t a novelty gimmick but rather a quality instrument within an unorthodox (but damn cool) design.

The company is driven by two brothers who grew up in South Africa, where they relied on salvaged resources and DIY methodology to craft their unique, treble-heavy instruments. After a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2013, the Lees raised enough money to get the company off the ground, and they made their way to U.S. markets.
