Grammys 2014: NIN, QOTSA, Dave Grohl & Lindsay Buckingham to Close Show

The 2014 Grammys just got a hell of a lot more interesting. Nine Inch Nails, Queens of the Stone Age, Dave Grohl, and special guest Lindsey Buckingham have been announced as the performers in the closing production at the 56th annual Grammy Awards on Sunday night, according to SPIN.

“We’re incredibly excited about this number,” Grammy executive producer Ken Ehrlich said in a statement. “There’s nothing better than when the Grammys can rock out, and to have these artists all together on one stage, doing a number that, when they presented it to us, knocked us out, is going to turn out to be one of those Grammy moments that people talk about for a long time. Long live Trent, Josh, Dave and Lindsey and these great bands!”

The rock triple-header of NIN, QOTSA and Grohl is a fan’s dream come true, one which was realized in the 2012 Sound City project, spearheaded by Grohl, in which a staggering count of musical greats performed together on new tracks. “Mantra,” which you can check out below, featured dual vocals by Grohl and NIN’s Trent Reznor, with QOTSA frontman Joshua Homme playing bass.

As Spin points out, Grohl has also performed extensively with both bands, most prominently on QOTSA’s 2002 LP Songs for the Deaf and Nine Inch Nails’ 2005 album With Teeth. There’s no official word yet on the role Fleetwood Mac guitarist/singer Buckingham will play. He appears in Sound City: Real to Reel,

The Grammy Awards will be broadcast live at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
