Titanfall’s A.I. Is “Processed in the Cloud” For All Versions, Says Respawn

Correcting an error posted on Twitter, Respawn replied:

@FanboyAttack this article is wrong, AI is processed in the cloud. I think you misunderstood.

Cloud processing was originally touted as one of the Xbox One’s most powerful features. Microsoft has argued its importance in keeping the Xbox One future proof for years to come.

The infrastructure isn’t exclusive to Xbox One, though. Respawn would follow up with the following comment:

PC uses cloud/dedicated servers also.

Using cloud processing, the decisions made by A.I., including its strategy, will be processed on a server separate from where a game is hosted. Some gamers are already wondering if that’ll cause a delay between decisions and action. Early alpha footage doesn’t appear to indicate that being the case.

On one hand, this infrastructure makes the game even more reliant on servers being stable. On the other, Respawn can tweak its algorithms to ensure that A.I. is as balanced as possible without needing to push patches to software.

A.I. has been a pushover during alpha. However, you can be sure that Respawn is looking at data and using that to determine how the behavior of Titanfall’s NPCs will behave on release.
