Album Stream: Bruce Springsteen Teams With Tom Morello on ‘High Hopes’

Next week, Bruce Springsteen will release his 18th studio album, which by most standards would be a staggering achievement for a musician, but for The Boss seems like a relatively low number. Regardless, High Hopes is a fascinating release which finds Springsteen mixing covers with originals and reworked versions of old songs.

Helped in no small part by Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello, who Bruce has credited for being the “muse” of this record, fans can now listen to rockin’ renditions of “The Ghost of Tom Joad,” a newly poignant relevance to “American Skin (41 Shots)” and more. Springsteen’s also backed on the album by his trusty E Street Band (including the late Danny Federici and Clarence Clemons). Ron Aniello, Brendan O’Brien, and Springsteen himself produced.

Because no album release in 2014 is complete without a sprawling promotional tie-in, three songs from High Hopes will appear in next week’s episode of CBS legal drama “The Good Wife”.

You can stream the whole album one week early, via CBS and Stereogum, below.

High Hopes is out Jan. 14.
