Microsoft’s Phil Spencer Commends Sony for PS4 Success

The competition between the PS4 and Xbox One has been ferocious this holiday season, but Sony and Microsoft have remained surprisingly cordial despite tensions during last generation.

Speaking about the next-gen competition, Microsoft corporate vice president Phil Spencer said to OXM.UK:

I’ll say, they’ve done a nice job with PS4. When I think about their announcement, their clear focus on a customer, leading with the value proposition of what they’re trying to do, staying true to a vision, I think they’ve done a nice job in how they defined the PS4.

Microsoft has paid a price for not focusing on consumers with its Xbox One. Negative attention since its controversial announcement of the Xbox One is still commonplace. Some gamers have even expressed disinterest in the new console solely based on Microsoft’s disposition. Despite this, the Xbox One has already sold over two million units within six weeks of launch.

There’s a lot that Microsoft can learn from Sony’s temperament. Based on Spencer’s words it appears Microsoft has taken note. Will we see a friendlier, more consumer-focused side of the American juggernaut in 2014? I sure hope so.
