Rumor: 1.8 Million Consumers Still on GameStop’s PS4 Wait List

The latest NPD results proved that the PS4 was as hot of a seller as many anticipated, but its booming launch is far from over.

A user on the Beyond3D forum has posted some compelling statistics about the PS4’s sales, one of which is that GameStop still has 1.8 million consumers wait listed for the PS4. This would easily put the console on-pace for Sony’s goal of five million units sold before mid-March.

If these numbers are to be believed, the PS4 will be able to tie and exceed with the Wii U’s 12-month total in a quarter of the time.

Surprisingly, he also noted that the Xbox One did in-fact sell more units during Black Friday, but only because of its much higher supply. Sony has struggled to cater to demand as it’s trickled releases of the PS4 to other countries. Its U.K debut in particular was record-breaking.

PS4s are still selling for around $550-$625 (a $120+ markup) on eBay, and presumably Craigslist. Small shipments are arriving infrequently only to be quickly devoured. To say the PS4 is doing well so far would be an understatement.
