Is Your Xbox One Disc Drive Broken? Here’s How to Fix it Yourself

Microsoft has been dealing with complaints caused by launch Xbox One consoles coming with a faulty disc drive. While consumers have been waiting for a replacement consoles to arrive in the mail, they’ve figured out how to fix the problem themselves.

It turns out that the loud grinding noise is caused by one of the drive gears being out of alignment. Many theorize that it’s caused by aggressive movement during shipment (some UPS workers have opened-up on Reddit about how workers throw the consoles into the shipping trucks). Nonetheless, the issue isn’t as serious as its grinding noise would lead you to believe.

Many users across the web have had luck fixing their disc drive by turning the console over and pounding their fist underneath where the drive is located. As silly as it sounds, assuming you don’t pound it with the force of a gorilla the console will be fine and the gear will jump back into alignment.

One YouTube user has posted a before and after, including a how-to, which you can see below:

If you happen to try this let us know if it works.
