Persona 5 Announcement Draws 1.23 Million Viewers, Overwhelmingly Positive Reception

Yesterday, Atlus made one of the biggest game announcements of the year: Persona 5 is in development for the PS3. That announcement drew an enormous crowd of 1,237,544 viewers on the live stream and would summon 858,819 comments, hinting at its overwhelming popularity with gamers.

Persona 5 has been long-awaited (hence the crowd) due to the popularity of the previous two Persona titles. The updated port of Persona 4, called Persona 4 Golden, is by far the highest-rated title on the PS Vita.

The series is hailed as one of the best in the modern JRPG market, and if there’s one thing gaming has been sorely missing it’s high-quality JRPGs. Persona 5 hopes to remedy that problem, although for now it doesn’t support either next-generation platform (and neither are backward compatible).

Atlus also announced Persona 4 Dancing All Night, a PS Vita exclusive, and Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth for the 3DS.
