Beck Plans New Album ‘Morning Phase’ For February 2014

Finally! News broke Monday that Beck has signed to Capitol Records, with his first album of new material in nearly six years scheduled for release in February 2014.

The album, titled Morning Phase, is described as a spiritual successor to Sea Change, Beck’s eighth album. This is a serious blow to fans looking for a more upbeat return, rather than the heartbreak doldrums of Sea Change.

Last December, Beck released Song Reader, a 20-song book of sheet music to new songs, which aside from a few token covers by admiring fans and musicians went largely unnoticed.

Check out our recap of Beck’s appearance at the Treasure Island festival in San Francisco a week ago, where Alexis Krauss of Sleigh Bells took to the stage to join Mr. Hansen for a duet.
