Majora’s Mask 3DS Remake Hinted By Zelda Producer

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time‘s release on the 3DS coincided with the revival of the system. Since then, the handheld has remained at the top of sales charts with record numbers of sales. Nintendo have taken note.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask similarly released on the N64, and also received widespread acclaim. It’s only natural that Nintendo brings it to the 3DS, right?

Nintendo have made it clear that they know fans want a Majora’s Mask remake on the 3DS, and today addressed it with the following post on Facebook by Eiji Aonuma, producer of The Legend of Zelda:

I see many of you have been asking about a remake of Majora’s Mask for Nintendo 3DS. It’s nice to see such a strong response to this title and we haven’t forgotten about Link’s adventures in that world.  If you play A Link Between Worlds, you may better understand what I mean by that.

A Link Between Worlds is a Zelda release specifically made for the 3DS, and is an homage to the series’ classic releases. Nintendo wouldn’t be wise to combat itself with two Zelda releases in the same timeframe, so it’s likely that they’ll wait until sometime in 2014 to reveal Majora’s Mask for the 3DS, supposing it’s actually in development.

Ocarina of Time 3D was a stellar title that not only improved the visuals and offered 3D support, but even included the Master Quest, essentially doubling the value. It has gone on to sell over 3 million copies making it a small investment with big reward. Knowing full well of what 3DS ports are capable of, Nintendo should be able to put in at least that much effort with a Majora’s Mask remake.

For now,
