Final Fantasy VI Goes Mobile, Final Fantasy VII May Follow Suit

To many veteran gamers, Final Fantasy VI is regarded as the epitome of the JRPG genre. Its great cast of characters, lively visuals, and engrossing story have been commended as some of the best the series and genre have to offer.

Square Enix has confirmed that FFVI will be making the jump to iOS and Android. Square Enix’s Takashi Tokita described it as “basically a remake of the original VI”. He went on to explain that experience rewards have been modified so less grinding is required to progress through the game’s many challenges in addition to the visuals receiving some modern love.

FFVI‘s mobile release follows many other Final Fantasy games that have made the transition to phones and tablets to share their glory with a wide demographic. The original Final Fantasy through Final Fantasy V have all had releases on iOS, as well as the epic Final Fantasy: The War of the Lions strategy game. Square Enix has hinted that Final Fantasy VII could be next in its line-up.

Final Fantasy VI is scheduled to release on iOS and Android this Winter.
