Gamescom 2013: PlayStation Vita Price Dropped to $199, Memory Cards More Affordable [UPDATE]

Update: The PlayStation Blog has posted the updated pricing for the PS Vita’s memory cards, which are as follows:

  • 4GB Memory Card: $14.99, down from $19.99
  • 8GB Memory Card: $19.99, down from $29.99
  • 16GB Memory Card: $39.99, down from $59.99
  • 32GB Memory Card: $79.99, down from $99.99

Original Story: Many regard the PlayStation Vita as a pricey proposition with its $249 price tag and post-purchase memory cards. Not anymore.

The PS Vita has had its price dropped to $199 in North America and Europe. In addition, memory cards are also now more affordable.

The support of several indie games, including FEZ, were also announced. In total, Sony spent more time on the Vita than the PS3 during its press conference, confirming its commitment to support the device.

Does this move come too late? The Vita has been struggling since its release in 2012. With the holiday season approaching and the Vita now at the same price as Nintendo’s 3DS XL, the season will be much more competitive than last year.
