Listen: Beck Returns With ‘I Won’t Be Long’

Beck has been out of view recently, holed up at work on a new acoustic album, which he will independently release, as well as an electric album, the latter being called the “proper follow-up” to 2008′s four-star-earning Modern Guilt. Both releases still remain untitled and lack a release date. On the upcoming acoustic album, it was stated that it ”can best be described as a self-contained work, one that came in the form of a burst of inspiration.”

Last month we heard the synth-fest called “Defriended,” and now he’s announced another single. “I Won’t Be Long” is a gentle-step groove that dabbles in the echoey ethereal. This is certainly another universe entirely from the “Loser” era – but we’re well beyond that now, aren’t we? We’re just thrilled it’s not more in the “sappy songs of heartache” vein a la Sea Change. Listen below!

“I Won’t Be Long” arrives physically on July 8 as a 45-rpm 12″ single, and its B-side is a 15-minute extended version of the song. Pre-order it here.
