It’s not a great idea to give the cops a fake name, thinking that you can get away with a crime. And it’s an even worse idea to keep a dozen fake licenses in your car, all with different names on it. But that’s what one female driver in Florida decided to do, which promptly led to her arrest. The cops later uncovered the reason why she tried to deceive them in the first place.
Police discover why 28-year-old driver gave them a fake name
On July 29 at around 10:40 p.m., a deputy stopped a woman in a vehicle whose tail light wasn’t on and whose tag lights were out in what was meant to be routine traffic stop, according to bodycam footage posted by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office on its official Facebook page.
The 28-year-old identified herself as Brianna Valenzuela and was immediately apologetic, saying that she was waiting for her boyfriend to arrive and that she was driving a rental under his name. However, the deputy became suspicious when she failed to provide a driver’s license and had no identification on her. The woman gives an excuse that her license is back in New York.
“We’re trying to figure out what’s going on,” the deputy tells her before having the woman step out of the car. “It’s not making a lot of sense to me.”
The video then cuts to about an hour later after several deputies search the trunk of the car. They discover twelve fake driver’s licenses that had her picture on it, but all with different names and dates of birth, leading them to arrest the woman on the spot.
Upon further investigation, the police discovered that her real name was Bryce Swanson. She hailed from Canada and had overstayed her visa in the United States. Swanson faces several charges, including the fraudulent use of personal information.
