It’s not everyday that criminals decide to make the cops’ lives easier, but that’s what two men in Minnesota did after they tried to escape on foot. One of the men was driving a Lexus when he was caught live on video brazenly cutting in front of a police car on a highway at around midnight. That led to a hot pursuit which didn’t end up in their favor.
Both men returned to the vehicle and were arrested
At around 11:50 p.m. on Friday, July 24, a black Lexus darted from lane to lane right in front of a patrol car, an unmarked Chevy Silverado, on Interstate 694, in a video posted by the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office on its official Facebook page.
Undersheriff Mike Martin was streaming at the time on Live on Patrol when it happened and promptly turned on the lights and siren and pursued the vehicle in a chase that went over 100 miles per hour. The driver didn’t stop and continued to dodge and weave between cars for about a minute; that is, until it collided with another vehicle, landing both cars in a ditch.
The unnamed driver and the passenger are then seen fleeing from the Lexus, which had smoke coming from the hood. They ran through the tall grass and past a nearby road. Though the video doesn’t show any officers chasing them, something happened that the cops didn’t expect.
Less than a minute later, the two men jog back to the vehicle and are seen arguing with one another. They then put their hands in the air before they are arrested by deputies. The 22-year-old man from South St. Paul was charged for fleeing, while police discovered that the 26-year-old man from Mounds View was on an active burglary warrant from Dakota County.
It’s unclear why the men decided to turn themselves around. Perhaps they originally fled because the vehicle was damaged, or they came back because the younger man was an innocent passenger who didn’t want to get dragged into this mess any further. Several commenters, however, believe that the pair initially ran away so they could dump drugs, though they didn’t run so far away that the cops couldn’t search for anything they discarded.
