In yet another stirring example of instant karma, a bicyclist thought that he would get a driver fined after he submitted video to the police of a car that came too close to hitting him. But he was the one that got the fine instead. Perhaps the bicyclist should have thought twice before showing evidence of his own reckless riding.
Cyclist thinks the driver is to blame for near-hit collision
A cyclist in Leeds, United Kingdom, uploaded a video taken from a camera on his helmet to the West Yorkshire Police, thinking that it was evidence that showed a silver Volvo SUV getting too close to him on the road in Menston near Ilkley, according to ITV.
And to be fair, the footage does show that the vehicle almost hits him. However, the police found that the close call was actually the bicyclist’s fault in the first place.
In the brief 7-second video, the cyclist is heading up a steep two-lane road on the left side of the white dotted line when he finds a blue car parked in his path. Meanwhile, the Volvo is already moving in the opposite direction in the other lane.
Instead of stopping, though, the bicyclist tries to wedge himself between the parked car and the Volvo, trying to thread the needle between the two as he rides on the white dotted line. According to the police, that’s the reason that he and the car came within inches of a collision, and that’s why they decided to fine the bicyclist a whopping £1,200 (or $1,596 USD).
“Later on in the same submission, he captured himself riding without due care and attention as he approached a parked car and an oncoming vehicle,” a police spokesperson said.
“Rather than slow down or have to unclip from his pedals, the rider chose to travel between the parked car and the vehicle heading directly towards him.”
