A new rumor points to another Gotham villain getting the spotlight. Matt Reeves’ Batman universe may be expanding beyond the big screen again. The reported project follows the success of The Penguin, though DC Studios has not confirmed its development. Even so, the claim has already sparked fresh casting debates and plenty of excitement among Batman fans online.
Poison Ivy spin-off set in Matt Reeves’ Batman universe rumored to be in works
According to a new report from entertainment scooper TheInSneider, DC Studios is developing a TV series centered on Poison Ivy that would take place within Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe. At this stage, the project remains a rumor, and neither Reeves nor DC Studios has officially announced the series.
The report gained traction just as The Batman: Part II moved into production. Reeves recently welcomed several newcomers through social media posts. It was reported that Sebastian Stan had joined the sequel as Harvey Dent. Scarlett Johansson is also reportedly being considered for an undisclosed role, while Brian Tyree Henry, Sebastian Koch and Charles Dance have joined the cast.
Fans quickly filled social media with their own ideas. One person wrote, “If Poison Ivy belongs in Robert Pattinson’s Batman universe, then Renate Reinsve is the only actress” for the role. Another joked that if Ivy gets her own series, “the Bat-cave will need a greenhouse.”
Others welcomed the rumor with comments such as, “We won boys. We’re getting a realistic interpretation of Poison Ivy,” while some speculated that Scarlett Johansson could secretly be playing the character. A few fans also said they hoped any new project would not take priority over a Wonder Woman movie.
If the rumored Poison Ivy series moves forward, it won’t be the character’s first time in the spotlight. Poison Ivy has been a major part of DC for years, showing up in comics, animated shows, live-action series, movies, and video games.
Uma Thurman famously played the iconic villain in Batman & Robin. On Gotham, the character appeared in different stages of her life, with Clare Foley, Maggie Geha, and later Peyton List all taking on the role.
