Superman star David Corenswet is set to take on a new role in a genre that helped launch Bradley Cooper and Paul Rudd to wider fame two decades ago. This comes as the actor prepares for James Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow.
David Corenswet and François Arnaud join Three Days of Rain Broadway revival
David Corenswet will lead the first Broadway revival of Richard Greenberg’s Three Days of Rain. The production opens in February 2027 at a Shubert Theatre venue yet to be confirmed, with Tony winner Anna D. Shapiro directing.
Corenswet steps into roles originally performed by Paul Rudd in the play’s star-studded 2006 premiere. That production was Julia Roberts’ stage debut and featured Bradley Cooper years before his ascent to Hollywood’s A-list.
The casting creates an intriguing parallel between generations of performers. Corenswet, currently filming the Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow, will play Walker and Ned: a son and father separated by decades but connected through a family mystery. Heated Rivalry star François Arnaud joins him as Pip and Theo, while Yvonne Strahovski of The Handmaid’s Tale takes on the dual roles of Nan and her mother, Lina.
“Three Days of Rain is truly one of the most beautiful plays I’ve ever done or experienced,” Shapiro said. “Steeped in the brilliantly funny and enchantingly complex world of Richard Greenberg, the story follows two generations of New York intelligentsia as they navigate the burden of family, the seduction of art and the necessity of love over time and eternity” (via Variety).
The play, which unfolds as a mystery about both literal and emotional inheritance, premiered Off-Broadway in 1997 and received a Pulitzer Prize nomination. Greenberg, who died of cancer in 2025 at 67, crafted more than 30 plays across four decades.
For Corenswet, the role adds another dimension to a rapidly expanding career. Beyond the Superman franchise, he stars in the upcoming sports drama Mr. Irrelevant and appears in DCU’s Supergirl.
