Donald Trump Criticizes Zohran Mamdani Following NYC Primary Upset

Donald Trump had plenty to say after a big night for Zohran Mamdani-backed candidates in New York. Several progressive Democrats scored primary victories, prompting the president to fire off a series of late-night social media posts.

The wins put Mamdani’s growing political influence back in the spotlight. They also reignited Trump’s long-running criticism of progressive politics and democratic socialism. The latest political showdown began after Claire Valdez, Darializa Avila Chevalier, and Brad Lander won key Democratic primary races on Tuesday.

Trump quickly reacted on Truth Social. “America the Beautiful will NEVER be a Communist Country!!!” the president wrote. Well, that wasn’t his only message. Trump also blasted what he described as “Many Communists running in badly failing Blue States.”

“The votes seem to have them doing quite well against each other,” he continued. “The bad news is that history has conclusively shown that the downtrodden States that they will soon be running will ONLY GET WORSE. MAGA!”

The comments were aimed at candidates aligned with Mamdani, whom Trump has repeatedly attacked during recent campaigns. In previous remarks, the president called the New York City mayor a “100% Communist Lunatic” and accused him of “destroying New York.”

One result appeared to especially catch Trump’s attention. Brad Lander defeated incumbent Rep. Dan Goldman in New York’s 10th Congressional District. Trump celebrated the outcome in another post.

“Weak and pathetic Congressman Dan Goldman just lost, BIG!” Trump wrote. “I guess people didn’t like him illegally targeting President TRUMP. In any event, this jerk is finally GONE!”

While Trump sounded the alarm, progressives were celebrating. New York City’s chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America cheered Darializa Avila Chevalier’s victory with a simple message: “SOCIALISM WINS UPTOWN!”

Sen. Bernie Sanders also joined the conversation. The Vermont senator praised what he called the “landslide victories” of Valdez and Lander.

“Together, we are creating a grassroots progressive movement that will defeat the Oligarchs,” Sanders wrote on X.

For now, the election results have done more than reshape a few races. They have also intensified the political battle between Donald Trump and the progressive movement, gaining ground in New York.
