New Car Accident Movie Beats Aaron Pierre’s Epic Sports Comedy on Streaming

Netflix viewers are currently split between two very different trending movies. One is a dark true-crime documentary centered around a deadly car crash, while the other is a sports comedy featuring NBA icon Stephen Curry and Lanterns star Aaron Pierre. Despite the big celebrity names attached to the animated film, the crime documentary has managed to take the top spot on the streaming charts.

The Crash beats Goat as Netflix’s top streaming movie

According to the latest stats by Flix Patrol, The Crash climbed to No. 1 on Netflix’s U.S. Top 10 movie chart on May 18, pushing Goat down to the second position. The documentary follows a tragic real-life case involving a teen driver whose car slammed into a building, killing her boyfriend and one of his friends. What first appeared to be a terrible accident later turned into a murder investigation.

The film features people directly connected to the case, including Mackenzie Shirilla, Dominic Russo, Davion Flanagan, Rosie Graham, Bubba Turner, Natalie Shirilla, Steve Shirilla, and Frank Russo. The documentary currently holds a 6.7 IMDb rating and has gained attention online because of its emotional interviews and courtroom details.

Meanwhile, Goat has still managed to pull strong numbers despite missing out on the top position. The animated sports comedy tells the story of a small goat named Will who dreams of competing in “roarball,” a dangerous, full-contact sport dominated by larger animals. After being mocked by teammates, Will fights to prove that size does not define talent.

The movie’s biggest attraction is easily Stephen Curry, who voices one of the characters and helped promote the project heavily. Curry is widely considered one of the greatest shooters in NBA history.

The Golden State Warriors star is a four-time NBA champion, two-time MVP, and the league’s all-time leader in three-pointers made. The voice cast also includes Aaron Pierre, Caleb McLaughlin, Jelly Roll, Gabrielle Union, David Harbour, Angel Reese, and Nick Kroll.

Even though Goat sits behind The Crash on Netflix’s rankings, critics and audiences have responded positively to it overall. The movie currently holds an 81% Tomatometer score and a 92% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, along with a 6.7 IMDb rating.
