More than 60 years after Clifford the Big Red Dog was first introduced, the beloved franchise is heading back to television with a new reboot at PBS Kids. New details about the upcoming animated series, including its episode count and release window, have now been revealed. The reboot will once again follow Emily Elizabeth and her giant red dog Clifford.

Clifford the Big Red Dog is heading back to television with a new animated reboot ordered by PBS Kids, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The upcoming preschool series, produced by 9 Story Media Group and based on the well-known Scholastic books, is currently scheduled to premiere in 2027. The project will bring Emily Elizabeth and her giant red dog back to screens with a new creative direction aimed at younger audiences.
Based on the popular children’s books from Scholastic, the new series will focus on teaching young audiences foundational social and emotional skills through the adventures of Emily Elizabeth and Clifford. The show aims to explore topics such as friendship, teamwork, inclusion, problem-solving, and community involvement while maintaining a lighthearted and comedic tone.
The animated reboot will consist of 26 episodes, each running 11 minutes. Brown Bag Films has been tapped to handle animation for the series. Alongside the show, an interactive Clifford game is also being developed as a companion project.
Iole Lucchese, Scholastic’s chief strategy officer and the movie’s executive producer, said, “This new series builds on Clifford’s most endearing traits through fresh storytelling, creating new opportunities for audiences and marking an exciting step in the continued growth of the franchise.”
Meanwhile, 9 Story Media Group CEO Vince Commisso added, “With this next chapter, we’re leaning into a more comedic approach that amplifies the scale and playfulness of Clifford, while staying grounded in the warmth and emotional connection audiences have always loved.” Clifford the Big Red Dog by Norman Bridwell was first published in 1963 and has since become a popular franchise with a loyal fan following.
