The Russo Brothers’ action series starring an actor from MCU’s Eternals has become a huge hit on Amazon Prime Video. This is shortly after the arrival of the show’s new season, going head-to-head with The Boys.
Citadel Season 2 leads Prime Video series to streaming success
According to FlixPatrol’s data for May 7, Citadel is #2 on Prime Video’s Top 10 Shows list in the United States. Citadel Season 2 premiered earlier this week, on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, which is likely what helped the show rank so high on the chart. Despite the poor reception for Season 1, the latest installment is holding well among other popular shows.
The Boys’ final season is currently leading the charts. Meanwhile, Invincible trails at #3, Nicole Kidman’s Scarpetta sits at #5, Young Sherlock is at #6, and Fallout comes in at #8.
Citadel is a spy-action series created by Josh Appelbaum, Bryan Oh, and David Weil for Amazon Prime Video. The Russo Brothers, Joe and Anthony, executive-produced the series. The cast features Richard Madden, known for playing Ikaris in Eternals and Robb Stark in Game of Thrones, as Mason, Priyanka Chopra Jonas as Nadia, and Stanley Tucci as Bernard, among others.
Season 1 centered on agents Mason and Nadia as they worked for Citadel, an independent spy agency, to protect the world from global-level threats. However, after Manticore, a rival, destroys Citadel, Mason and Nadia lose their memories. Years later, their former operative Bernard Orlick reels them back into the world of espionage.
In Citadel Season 2, the series picks up shortly after the events of the previous season. As a new threat emerges, the team reunites. However, the trust is on shaky ground. The latest season comprises seven episodes, one more than the previous season’s.
The show currently has a 51% Tomatometer score and 62% Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes. Furthermore, Season 1 became one of the most expensive shows ever made, reportedly costing $300 million. It is just behind both seasons of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, another Prime Video Original series.
