Animal Friends will now release in January 2027
Warner Bros. has set a new theatrical date for Animal Friends, confirming that the film will now open on January 22, 2027. The update follows a series of scheduling changes for the project, which has shifted across multiple release windows since its initial announcement.
According to Deadline, the most recent delay is reportedly due to scheduling considerations around cast availability for promotional activities. The publication reported that the film’s cast will be “more will be available to do press then.” However, as of now, there has been no official confirmation regarding the reason for the delay.
The project is a live-action and animated hybrid that follows two animals, Pony and Bear, voiced by Ryan Reynolds and Jason Momoa. The story centers on their cross-country journey as they attempt to return to a ranch they once lived on, while being pursued by a DEA agent and a Fish and Wildlife ranger.
Directed by Peter Atencio, the film is an adult-oriented road trip comedy. The cast also includes Aubrey Plaza, Addison Rae, Dan Levy, Lil Rel Howery, and Ellie Bamber. The screenplay has been written by Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider, with production from Legendary, Maximum Effort, and Prime Focus Studios.
The film’s release timeline has shifted several times over the past year. It was initially set for an August 2025 release under Sony before moving to Warner Bros. following a change in distribution. Subsequent release dates included October 2025, May 2026, and June 2026, before settling on its current January 2027 slot.
Further details are expected as the film approaches its release date.
