‘Assassin’s Creed’ is Being Adapted as an Anime Series

Late last year, the Assassin’s Creed movie proved to be a disappointment when its video game success didn’t translate into a box office blockbuster. But there may be some good news ahead for fans of the franchise. Producer Adi Shankar has revealed that he is working on an Assassin’s Creed anime series in conjunction with Ubisoft.

Via ScreenRant, Shankar made the announcement on his Facebook page, where wrote the following message for fans: “I’m happy to let you guys know that I’ve selected my next project! I played the first edition of Assassin’s Creed the year I moved to Los Angeles to pursue my dream. At that moment I knew absolutely no one in the industry and could never have imagined that one day Ubisoft would ask me to take the world of Assassin’s Creed and create an original story set in it as an anime series. If anyone tells you not to follow your passion in life they are wrong.”

It’s unclear whether the anime series will be tied to any previous game in the series or if there will be a connection to the upcoming Assassin’s Creed: Origins, which was recently shown at E3.

Shankar’s experience has primarily been in film with projects like Dredd, The Grey, and Lone Survivor. He’s also the man behind a few bootleg short films featuring The Punisher, Venom, and the Power Rangers that managed to give him a lot of attention while seemingly angering the rights holders to the original properties, especially Saban. However, Saban and Shankar eventually reached a compromise that allowed the R-rated take on Power/Rangers to remain online.

Later this week, Shankar’s Castlevania animated series will premiere on Netflix. Given the relative creative freedom that Netflix can provide, it would probably be an ideal home for the Assassin’s Creed anime as well. But it’s anyone’s guess when or where that show will be released.
