The true identity of Banksy has been one of the great mysteries of the 21st century. Veteran British DJ/rapper Goldie “allegedly” unmasked the anonymous street artist and hotel owner’s real name during an interview on the Distraction Pieces podcast, when the graffiti artist turned musician went on a rant about the current commercialization of art.

“Give me a bubble letter and put it on a T-shirt and write ‘Banksy’ on it and we’re sorted,” said Goldie. “We can sell it now. No disrespect to Robert, I think he is a brilliant artist. I think he has flipped the world of art over.”

Although Goldie didn’t say Robert’s last name, internet sleuths believe he’s referring to Robert Del Naja of Massive Attack who’s long been suspected of being Banksy in the past

Goldie’s slip has some merit considering that journalist Craig Williams, who has investigated Banksy’s true identity, came up with a similar conclusion, after noticing that a lot of the street art legend’s iconic pieces seemed to pop up in the same vicinity as Massive Attack gigs.
