Red Dead Redemption 2 Delayed By Nearly a Year

Red Dead Redemption 2 has suffered a significant delay, with Rockstar Games pushing its release date all the way back to spring 2018.

Rockstar made the announcement on their official site, saying that the new launch window will affect both PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game. Saying that “some extra time is necessary” in order to ensure that the game’s developers would provide “the best possible experience” for players, Rockstar continued: “We are very sorry for any disappointment this delay causes, but we are firm believers in delivering a game only when it is ready. We are really excited to bring you more details about the game this summer.”

This announcement at least appears to suggest that we’ll receive more Red Dead Redemption 2 information at E3 2017, unless Rockstar has their own individual reveal planned. Rockstar has an exclusive partnership with Sony, with certain online Red Dead Redemption 2 content set to launch first on the PS4, leading to suggestions that the game would make an appearance during the hardware manufacturer’s E3 presentation.

Red Dead Redemption 2 will be the first game that Rockstar has built from the ground up for the PS4 and Xbox One, with its previous release Grand Theft Auto V first launching on last-gen consoles. Rockstar has a habit of delaying their games, so their spaghetti western sequel being pushed back is hardly a surprise, but it’s still a lengthy wait for fans of the critically-acclaimed first Red Dead Redemption.

Rockstar made this bad news a little easier by releasing a batch of new screenshots for the game, offering the first look at it since its teaser trailer dropped last October. You can check out the screenshots in the below gallery:
