A Red Dead Redemption Movie Could Happen if Lost Star Has His Way

Though Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption doesn’t have a movie adaptation in the pipeline, Lost star Josh Holloway is still expressing his interest. In a recent discussion, the 57-year-old actor openly spoke about his love for the Western-themed action-adventure video game before mentioning his desire to develop a feature-length project on the fan-favorite series.

Josh Holloway wants to lead a Red Dead Redemption movie adaptation

During his recent appearance at Fan Expo Boston, Holloway explicitly noted that he would like to do a film based on Red Dead Redemption.

While speaking during a panel with MovieWeb‘s Joe Deckelmeier, the actor stated that he “[likes] Red Dead Redemption,” adding that he “[wants] to do that as a movie.”

Rockstar Games has so far announced no official plans to bring the gun-slinging world of the Red Dead games to the big screen. Though with the recent success of video game adaptations such as Nintendo’s Super Mario movies, the chances of fans seeing a big-screen adaptation of the popular game series may not be as unlikely as they once were.

Released in 2010 as a successor to the game Red Dead Revolver, Red Dead Redemption follows the journey of John Marston, a former outlaw, during the decline of the American frontier in 1911. After his wife and son fall into the hands of the government, Marston is forced to act as a hired gun on the whims of the law enforcers and pursues three members of his former gang.

The video game made huge waves upon its release. At the time of writing, Red Dead Redemption has sold over 116 million copies worldwide. It also spawned a prequel game released in 2018, titled Red Dead Redemption 2, which also earned rave reviews from critics and has so far sold over 87 million copies globally.
