Alien: Isolation 2 Could Be In The Works From Creative Assembly

Creative Assembly could be working on Alien: Isolation 2, if a new rumor from the Official PlayStation Magazine is to be believed.

Alien: Isolation had its fair share of supporters following its release back in 2014, with many praising developers Creative Assembly for their dedication to the source material and the game’s authentic survival horror scares. Now it seems that a sequel could be on its way, with its creators reportedly heading back into the studio to work on a follow-up.

The rumor, published in next month’s OPM (via PlayStation Universe), reads: ”Our sources tell us that after work is finished on Halo Wars 2, a new Alien game may start development over at Alien Isolation dev Creative Assembly.”

Though this isn’t confirmation of the existence of Alien: Isolation 2, we’d imagine that the Official PlayStation Magazine would have trustworthy sources when it comes to news of unannounced games, so we’re giving this one the benefit of the doubt. Though publishers SEGA were disappointed with sales of the original game, the thirst for a new Alien game may increase with the upcoming release of Alien: Covenant, director Ridley Scott’s return to the universe that he created. Though Alien: Isolation 2 hasn’t even made its way into development yet, SEGA could be planning its release for a potential sequel to new film, or to simply capitalize on a renewed interest in the franchise.

Creative Assembly have previously expressed interest in developing Alien: Isolation 2, with game designer Gary Napprethe explaining that the potential sequel is a “daily topic” in the studio in an interview with AVP Galaxy in late December. It’s now been a while since the dust settled on the original game, so there would no doubt be plenty of interest in a follow-up in the near future.

Alien: Covenant will have its own tie-in game of sorts, with a virtual reality experience developed by Fox Innovation Lab set to launch alongside the release of the film. It will be “a dread-inducing journey into the depths of the Alien universe,” according to its press release, with it set to be released as a paid app on “major VR platforms.”
