Horizon Zero Dawn Has a 17 GB Day One Download

Horizon Zero Dawn has a pretty sizeable day one download, clocking in at 17.1 GB.

This new file appears to be different from the game’s two optimization patches, which only take up 227.3MB of space combined. For those who purchase the game as a digital download, these small patches are included in its 39.485 file size.

The game is available to pre-load in North America from 9pm PT tonight. We’d strongly suggest that you those who have pre-ordered the game as a digital download do so in order to avoid waiting around to play the game when it’s officially released tomorrow.

Here are the improvements that the 227.3 MB patches 1.01 and 1.02 add to the game:

Patch 1.01

  • Added options to switch graphics mode and HDR rendering
  • Multiple crash fixes and progression
  • Various performance improvements

Patch 1.02

  • Multiple crash fixes and progression
  • Various fixes to avoid getting player’s stuck
  • Updated visual settings
  • Performance improvements

Though day one downloads are pretty much an industry standard at this point, Horizon still has a hefty file size compared to other games. If you haven’t got much storage space left on your PS4, then you’re going to want to do a little pre-spring cleaning in order to accommodate for the new game.
