Leading off is Childish Gambino, whose third album, Awake, My Love! came out on Dec 2. Fresh off his FX hit series Atlanta, the always adventurous Donald Glover has defied expectations yet again by beaming up to the Funkadelic Mothership for his third album, for a sound more akin to Prince than the Kanye West-lite of his previous releases.

J. Cole, the king of low-key made some noise this week when word of his new album, 4 Your Eyez Only, secretly appeared in iTunes on Thursday morning. Fans got a preview of J. Cole’s Dec. 9th release with the his Eyez  documentary, a 40 minute behind-the-scenes featurette that included snippets of the new music from the upcoming LP. One of the tracks previewed was “False Prophets,” (hear it below), a no-holds-barred attack at current rappers, including (allegedly) Kanye West

Speaking of Kanye, when aren’t we BTW, Kid Cudi who has a love/hate affair with his one-time mentor, is also dropping a new album for the holidays. Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’ was originally slated to drop in September, but was delayed until Dec. 16 after Cudi checked himself into rehab for depression, which he detailed in an emotional Facebook post. Listen to the first single “Baptized in Fire” featuring Travis Scott below.
