Jared Leto Cast In The New ‘Blade Runner’ Sequel

We’re starting to get a complete picture of what the new Blade Runner sequel is going to look like, with news that Jared Leto is set to join the cast.

The film was already set to star Ryan Gosling in a new role, with Harrison Ford to reprise his role from the original as Rick Deckard. Despite the announcement of the addition of Suicide Squad star Leto, details about his character, and whether he’ll be a human or a replicant, have not yet been revealed.

“We are thrilled that Jared has agreed to play a key role in the Blade Runner sequel,” said co-founders of Alcon Entertainment Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson in a statement. “He is a phenomenal actor, and we know he will create a truly memorable, never before seen character.”

As reported by Variety, Alcon Entertainment acquired the rights to Blade Runner in 2011 from producers Bud Yorkin and Cynthia Sikes Yorkin. Broderick Johnson, Andrew Kosove and Cynthia Sikes Yorkin will produce the new film, while Bud Yorkin, who has since passed, will receive a producer credit.

No details of the plot of the film have been revealed. The only thing that’s been confirmed is that the film will be set several decades after the 1982 original, and that the original film’s director Ridley Scott will give input into the script, whilst also act as an executive producer.

The Blade Runner sequel is being touted for an October 2017 release.
