Italian-Canadian Director Behind First IMAX-shot Music Video, With Rihanna

Italian-Canadian director Floria Sigismondi has completed the first-ever totally-shot-in-IMAX music video, which features Rihanna singing the track “Sledgehammer” from the new Star Trek movie Star Trek Beyond.

“The lyrics of the song and this new Star Trek are all about breaking through the boundaries and breaking through your goals that you set and when things don’t fit anymore, it’s just moving through them,” Sigismondi said to the CBC in LA, where she’s based. “Really it’s a story about transcendence.”

The track was written by another singing heavyweight: Sia. Star Trek Beyond hits theaters on July 22nd.

The IMAX-shot video started screening on July 1st. “I’ve been doing music videos for such a long time – that’s how I’ve always thought of them, as this little art piece that you can create with the music as a companion.”

Sigismondi will be returning to Canada in October to participate in Toronto’s Nuit Blanche.
