Louis Theroux’s Scientology Doco Will Screen At The Melbourne International Film Festival

Louis Theroux‘s full-length feature Louis Theroux: My Scientology Movie premiered at the London Film Festival in 2015 to a hugely positive response from critics and audiences alike.

Now the quirky filmmaker’s much-talked about feature film is set to be screened at the Melbourne International Film Festival.

My Scientology Movie follows Theroux as he attempts to explore what life is really like within the much-maligned Church of Scientology. When they won’t let him in, Theroux then hires actors to play the most well-known and influential characters of the church including Tom Cruise and David Miscavige, with predictably hilarious results.

Taking inspiration from 2013 documentary The Act Of Killing, Theroux sets out to debunk the rumors and get to the bottom of what’s really going on with one of the world’s most controversial religious movements – as he battles to get information from those who he’s trying to film.

At one point henchmen from the church even begin to tail him with a camera, claiming to be making a documentary about Theroux’s documentary.

Tickets to Louis Theroux: My Scientology Movie as part of MIFF 2016 go on sale Friday, July 8.
