Miles Teller has nothing but admiration for Tom Cruise, especially when it comes to his passion for filmmaking. However, while discussing Top Gun 3, the actor revealed that Cruise gets so excited talking about movies that Teller sometimes has to “hang up on Tom.”

Teller joined Jimmy Kimmel on his late-night show on November 4 to promote his upcoming film Paper Tiger. But Kimmel couldn’t pass up the opportunity to discuss Top Gun 3. Paramount announced in April that the next Top Gun movie is in development, with work on the script already underway.
Teller laughed as he acknowledged the excitement surrounding the upcoming movie. “I know everybody’s really excited about it,” he said and added, “You know, Tom, I think he’s said the next thing he’s doing is he’s going to race some cars, that’s Days of Thunder. And then I hope he wants to fly some planes, too, ‘cause we would love to do it.'”
The conversation continued with Kimmel asking Teller whether he regularly messages Cruise and if the actor always gets back to him. Teller responded, “Tom is very gracious and he was the closest thing to a mentor that I think a lot of us ever had in this business, and he’s always available.”
Teller also shared an amusing detail about Cruise‘s enthusiasm for filmmaking. He said that the conversations can get so intense that he sometimes has to hang up. “I’ve had to hang up on Tom because, just, he’s so excited. He really is so invested,” Teller said.
Nearly a year before Top Gun 3 received official confirmation, Top Gun: Maverick writer and producer Christopher McQuarrie appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast and revealed that they already had a story “in the bag” for the third film. He added that coming up with the idea “wasn’t hard.”
