Amy Poehler has found plenty to appreciate about getting older, from becoming more open-minded to gaining a better sense of perspective. But one change seems to matter most when her evening schedule gets pushed too late: dinner.
Amy Poehler says she eats her dinner at 6 pm now that she’s older
Speaking in an interview with The Wall Street Journal, the “Parks and Recreation” actress reflected on the perks of getting older and explained how experience has helped her navigate difficult situations with greater perspective.
“Oh, my God, getting older is great,” she said. “Having experience and some wisdom, you have a lot of opportunities where things went badly, and you survived, like you didn’t fall apart.”
Poehler also said that age has softened some of the rigid opinions she held in her twenties and thirties. “Your certainty that’s really important in your 20s and 30s, like, ‘I always,’ ‘I never,’ ‘I hate this,’ ‘I love this,’ ‘this is wrong,’ ‘this is right’ starts to get a little hazier, and I think that’s a good thing for work,” Poehler explained. “Because it keeps you more open-minded and curious, and I think less rigid.”
However, one of the most relatable changes she has experienced is her preference for an earlier dinner.
“I love an early dinner,” she joked. Poehler made it clear that a 6:30 p.m. interview was already cutting into her preferred schedule.
“We need to be digesting by 6:45,” she said. “We need to be on a walk.”
When asked whether the late interview had disrupted her routine, Poehler quipped, “Yeah… I’m gonna be up all night.”
Some social media users also related to Poehler’s comments. One user wrote, “She is me. I am her. We are tired.” Another praised her perspective, writing, “Love this perspective. Aging with more curiosity and less rigidity is a win, early dinners included.”
Poehler’s comments offer a humorous take on getting older, highlighting how experience can bring greater flexibility while also making an early dinner feel increasingly appealing.
