Russell Brand’s wife, Laura Gallacher, has revealed why their first relationship ended in 2007. Testifying at Southwark Crown Court on October 29, she spoke about Brand’s difficulty with monogamy during their early relationship. However, she also described him as a caring partner who respected her boundaries.
Laura Gallacher reveals why she split from Russell Brand in 2007
According to Independent, Gallacher told the court that she first met Brand in 2006, when she was 19 and he was 31. She described him as a caring partner who made her feel respected throughout their early relationship.
Gallacher also said Brand respected her boundaries and allowed their relationship to progress at her pace. However, the couple separated in February 2007 after she discovered he was seeing other women.
“I wasn’t interested in having a relationship with him if he was sleeping with other people,” she told the court. “I was invested, we both had told each other we loved each other but it was clear it was difficult for him to be monogamous.”
Despite their separation, the couple remained in contact and eventually rekindled their romance in 2015. They married in 2017 and now share three children.
Speaking about their marriage, Gallacher described Brand as caring, kind and attentive. She also praised him as a father and expressed her continued love for him.
Her testimony came during Brand’s ongoing trial at Southwark Crown Court. The comedian faces three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault and one count of attempted indecent assault. The charges involve six women and relate to alleged incidents between 1999 and 2009. Brand has pleaded not guilty to all seven charges.
During the trial, several women have given accounts of alleged sexual misconduct. One complainant described feeling “like a piece of meat,” while another reportedly described Brand’s blank stare as resembling a possessed look.
Another woman described his “lizard-like” tongue during an alleged assault. Other testimony included allegations of forced oral sex.
Gallacher’s testimony offered the jury an account of her personal experiences with Brand, including their early separation and eventual reconciliation. The court will continue examining the evidence before reaching a verdict.
