Travis Kelce Fires Back at Prince William’s Taylor Swift Selfie Joke

Travis Kelce has responded to Prince William’s confession that he tried to move the NFL star out of a selfie with Taylor Swift, joking that he hopes his marriage to the singer “doesn’t go south.” The Kansas City Chiefs tight end addressed the royal’s remarks on his New Heights podcast with brother Jason Kelce on Wednesday, October 28.

Appearing on The Graham Norton Show, William admitted he had only recently realised the significance of the now-famous photograph, taken during Swift’s Eras Tour stop in London in June 2024. The selfie featured William, his children Prince George and Princess Charlotte, Swift and Travis. It was the first picture the couple publicly shared together on Instagram.

“I wasn’t until recently. I hadn’t appreciated the significance — and actually, I was trying to move him out of the photo,” William joked, as reported by Hello Magazine. He added, “But Travis kept coming back in, and I couldn’t work out why he kept coming back in. I was trying to move him out so it was just me and Taylor and the children.”

Responding to the story, Travis said he understood William’s perspective, noting that he was still Swift’s boyfriend at the time.

On the New Heights podcast, Travis said, “I get it, man. I think we all get it.” He continued, “I was just a boyfriend at that point. You know? I wasn’t her husband yet. You know? We don’t really know if this is gonna last, so it’s kinda just move out of the way real quick so we can keep this photo forever.”

He then joked, “Yeah. Hopefully, this doesn’t go south. Otherwise, this photo is not gonna be as good.” Travis also made it clear he had no hard feelings, adding, “Shout out to Prince William, man.”

Travis and Swift began dating in the summer of 2023, got engaged in August 2025 and married on July 3, 2026, at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. William had met Swift earlier, in 2013, when they sang “Livin’ on a Prayer” with Jon Bon Jovi at a Kensington Palace charity gala.
