Prince George’s Godmother Has a Message for King Charles, William & Harry

Prince George’s godmother, Julia Samuel, has shared advice about one of the most painful problems a parent can face: adult children who no longer speak to each other. Given her longstanding ties to the royal family, the timing has naturally drawn attention. Samuel shared a close friendship with Princess Diana and remains connected to Princes William and Harry. Her latest reflections come as the brothers remain estranged and King Charles reportedly hopes they can eventually repair their relationship.

Samuel did not specifically name Charles, William, or Harry in her Oct. 23 Therapy Works Substack. Instead, the psychotherapist offered advice to parents caught between estranged adult children.

She explained that parents often instinctively want to step in and fix the relationship. However, Samuel warned that pushing for reconciliation can sometimes deepen the problem.

“Sometimes, love requires us to stand back,” she wrote, encouraging parents to give their children space to work through their problems themselves.

Samuel also advised parents to avoid playing mediator, listen without taking sides, give the situation time, acknowledge their own grief, and accept what they cannot control.

Her advice has obvious relevance to the current British royal family dynamic. Charles reportedly wants to bring Prince William and Prince Harry closer together, with reports even pointing to a possible 2027 tribute to Princess Diana as an opportunity for reconciliation.

The subject feels particularly timely because Harry recently said he still believes he and William can repair their relationship. So far, however, the brothers have shown few public signs of a major breakthrough.

Their feud may also affect the next generation. Reports have suggested that the distance between William and Harry could limit the bond between Prince George, Archie, and Lilibet.

Samuel’s close connection to the family makes her perspective especially notable. She counted Diana among her closest friends, and William and Kate later named her one of George’s godparents.

Still, Samuel did not present the essay as a direct message to the royals. Her broader advice instead offers a lesson that could resonate with Charles: sometimes parents can support their children best by resisting the urge to force a resolution.
