Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast with Alex Cooper, Lawrence said that she reunited with Josh Hutcherson and Harrelson for the upcoming prequel. According to Deadline, Lawrence described the experience as emotion-heavy as many former co-stars got together on the set.
“Oh my — unbelievable,” Lawrence said, recalling her return. “It was so crazy because it was the same crew, it was the same camera guys, the same AD who I’ve worked with a million times too, because I love him. And Josh and Woody, and, like, it was so emotional.”
Lawrence also spoke about her reunion with Hutcherson, who played Peeta Mellark opposite her Katniss Everdeen in the original films. “Josh and I, like, didn’t walk to the bathroom without our arms around each other,” she said. “It was so beautiful.”
However, it was Harrelson’s antics that attracted the most attention. The actor, who played Haymitch Abernathy in the original franchise, entered Lawrence’s hotel room without using the door. “And Woody obviously came through the window of my hotel room uninvited, because it would not be the same if he listened to boundaries and used a door,” Lawrence said.
Lawrence first played Katniss in 2012’s The Hunger Games and returned for the three subsequent films. The new movie revisits Panem 24 years before the original story. It focuses on a young Haymitch Abernathy during the Second Quarter Quell, the 50th Hunger Games.
Joseph Zada plays the younger Haymitch, with the ensemble also featuring Ralph Fiennes, Jesse Plemons, Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning and Maya Hawke.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is scheduled to open in theatres on November 20, 2026. It is directed by Francis Lawrence and based on Suzanne Collins’ novel,
