Kristen Bell has shared details of a dangerous on-set incident while she was filming the latest season of Nobody Wants This. The 46-year-old actress revealed that she and around 10 members of the crew had a “near-death experience.”
How eight-foot waves threatened the Nobody Wants This beach shoot
During an October 26 appearance on her husband Dax Shepard’s podcast, Armchair Expert, Bell recounted the terrifying experience, explaining that it happened “in the waves.” The actress, who was joined on the podcast by co-stars Adam Brody, Justine Lupe, and Timothy Simons, said, “I had to pretend to be nude, so I’m wearing a scuba suit from here down.”
Explaining it, she said, “I went out with, I think, nine or 10 crew members, and we had one-for-one stunts with us, which means every person has a stunt person bracing them.” After saying her lines in Hebrew, her scene required her to go underwater “until the wave eventually crashes.” However, she said the stunt crew began screaming just before the wave hit. “I get hoisted out of the air by two stunt women who are helping me,” she said.
“Every crew member has a stunt person, like, pushing them into the sand. Poor Aaron, our camera operator, was getting pummeled by the waves. Both cameras were underwater.” To make matters worse, the director told Bell later that they had not gotten the shot they wanted. While Bell feared that “somebody was going to be washed away,” the crew managed to finish filming safely. She said, “When you watch the show, you’ll notice the only angle they use is the side angle because the front-on angle, it was horrific to watch.” She added that the final result was “amazing.”
In the series, Bell plays podcaster Joanne Williams, while Brody portrays Rabbi Noah Roklov. The show’s third season premiered on Netflix on October 22.
