Kate Gosselin Insists She Didn’t Abandon Son Collin Amid Memoir Drama

Kate Gosselin has responded to her son Collin Gosselin’s claims about visits during his childhood stay at a residential treatment facility. Kate said she visited him “every single time” she was allowed to.

Her remarks came after the October 13 release of Collin’s memoir, In the Shadow of Eight. In the book, the 22-year-old made several allegations about his mother and his childhood following her separation from Jon Gosselin.

Collin discussed his childhood experiences and his family’s reality television years in his memoir. Jon & Kate Plus 8 followed Jon and Kate as they raised their eight children. The series began in 2007 and later continued as Kate Plus 8 following their divorce.

Kate enrolled Collin in a residential treatment facility in 2016. At the time, she said he had exhibited “unpredictable and violent behavior” and connected the decision to what she described as his “special needs,” People reported.

After spending time at two facilities, Collin moved in with his father. Jon later received custody of him.

In his memoir, Collin claimed Kate visited him only once while he was in treatment. He also alleged that she told him he had “broke” the family.

Kate disputed that account in TikTok comments on October 25.

She said she visited Collin “every single time” the facility allowed her to do so.

“Sometimes a visit was planned, but the facility canceled it because he was too unstable and it would have to be rescheduled,” Kate wrote.

She also alleged that Collin’s behavior led to his placement in psychiatric care to protect him and those around him.

The conflicting accounts come as Netflix prepares a documentary about the Gosselin family. The streamer announced the project on October 21 through Tudum.

Netflix has not yet revealed the documentary’s title or release date. Mike Gasparro and Julia Willoughby Nason are set to produce the project, which could bring renewed attention to the family’s history and competing accounts of what happened behind the scenes.
