Nicki Minaj’s Trump Rally Comments Leave Some LGBTQ+ Fans Upset

Nicki Minaj is facing criticism from some LGBTQ+ fans after joining Donald Trump at a Republican campaign rally in Michigan. The rapper used part of her appearance to speak about transgender minors. The remarks came as Minaj continued to strengthen her public support for Trump. However, some longtime listeners questioned her remarks, given the strong support she has received from LGBTQ+ fans throughout her career.

What the rapper said in Michigan and how some fans responded

Minaj joined Trump at an Oct. 25 rally in Port Huron, where Republicans were campaigning for Senate candidate Mike Rogers and gubernatorial candidate John James. During her speech, Minaj said she did not want children to be “bombarded with sex changes,” according to the Mirror.

“We want people to leave the children alone,” Minaj added while criticizing gender-transition procedures involving minors.

Her remarks quickly sparked criticism from some LGBTQ+ fans on social media. According to Tyla, one user wrote, “Nicki Minaj supporting Trump and his campaign to strip trans rights… and yet half of her stans are queer.”

Another queer fan expressed disappointment, saying the development “really sucks” after years of appreciating Minaj’s self-expression. Others questioned how her latest stance aligned with the support she has received from gay men and other LGBTQ+ listeners throughout her career.

The remarks also drew criticism in Reddit’s LGBTQ+ community. In one r/lgbt discussion, a user urged others to skip Minaj’s music after her Michigan rally appearance. Another commenter remarked that her political shift had been “something,” referencing her previous association with RuPaul’s Drag Race.

Minaj’s relationship with Trump has grown increasingly public throughout 2026. She previously called herself his “No. 1 fan” after receiving a Trump Gold Card. More recently, she declared that she was “not going anywhere” after Trump praised her during a White House visit.

The Michigan appearance created another headline when Trump commented publicly on Minaj’s appearance during the rally.

Minaj also praised Trump for changing the country’s “energy” and pledged to continue supporting him.

For some LGBTQ+ fans, however, her comments about transgender children became the bigger issue. The reactions highlight divisions among some members of Minaj’s fanbase, known as the Barbz, over her growing political involvement.
