Holland Taylor is opening up about why she and longtime partner Sarah Paulson continue to maintain separate homes after more than a decade together. However, their arrangement may not involve as much time apart as it seems. Taylor explained that their demanding careers often determine where they stay. In fact, Paulson has recently been spending plenty of time under the same roof as her partner despite having a home of her own.

Taylor discussed their living arrangement during an Oct. 20 appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show. According to E! News, the 83-year-old explained, “We do as much time as we possibly can because work takes us apart constantly.”
Taylor has an apartment in New York City, where Paulson stays whenever she is in town. When their schedules bring them to New York at the same time, the couple stays there together.
Things are slightly different in Los Angeles. Taylor and Paulson have separate houses there. However, Paulson has yet to move into her new home despite having it for almost a year. Instead, Taylor said the American Horror Story star has been staying at her house.
Ultimately, Taylor said they are together as much as their jobs and locations allow. Their unconventional setup therefore appears to be less about deliberately keeping distance and more about making their longtime relationship work around two busy careers.
Those careers certainly remain active. Paulson has continued working on major projects while also being candid about her past roles. She recently revealed where American Horror Story: Roanoke ranks among her seasons.
Taylor also had warm words for her partner beyond their romantic relationship. She described Paulson as an especially devoted friend who puts significant time and effort into the people she loves.
The pair first crossed paths years before they started dating and eventually went public with their relationship in 2015. More than a decade later, their separate addresses do not appear to be getting in the way of spending time together.
