Recently, the actor discussed his career with the SAG-AFTRA Foundation on October 5. During the conversation, John Goodman reflected on George Clooney’s The Monuments Men and Blues Brothers 2000, one of two films he now regrets doing.

Goodman said, “It was one of those movies, like Blues Brothers 2000, I probably shouldn’t have done. But I had more fun doing it working with these great musicians. Wilson Pickett, Eddie ‘Knock on Wood’ Floyd, Sam Moore from Sam and Dave, all these great cats.”

“It didn’t do well. George’s movie, I had one of the best times I’ve ever had on a film — nothin’,” he added.

During the conversation, the 74-year-old actor also praised George Clooney before revealing his regrets about making one of the films. He also looked back on his experience working on The Monuments Men.

He said, “George loves movies and he loves stories and he’s such a great storyteller himself, and I think he’s a great director. I had fun with him. Monuments Men. We were over in Germany for six months. And England.”

As for Blues Brothers 2000, the film became a major box-office flop. It served as a sequel to the popular 1980 cult classic The Blues Brothers. After the death of original star John Belushi, the filmmakers cast John Goodman as Dan Aykroyd’s new partner, Mighty Mack McTeer.

George Clooney’s film had a reported budget of around $30 million to $31 million. However, it earned only $14.05 million at the domestic box office and $32.1 million worldwide. On Rotten Tomatoes, Blues Brothers 2000 holds a 37% Popcornmeter score and a 47% Tomatometer score.
