Angelina Jolie’s Lawyer Accuses Brad Pitt of Trying to ‘Control Her’

Angelina Jolie’s latest court victory over Brad Pitt came with a pointed accusation from her lawyer. The actress had successfully blocked Pitt’s request for years of private financial records in their bitter Château Miraval battle.

A judge rejected Pitt’s demand for Jolie’s 2017 through 2019 financial records on Tuesday. The ruling left the door open for another request if Jolie later makes those earnings relevant to her testimony.

Angelina Jolie’s lawyer accuses Brad Pitt of harassment after his request for her financial records was denied

TMZ reported that Pitt had sought Jolie’s records while arguing they could shed light on her decision to sell her Miraval stake. His team had focused on income from 2017 through 2019, including potential compensation from entertainment deals. The judge found that Pitt’s side had not shown sufficient reason to override Jolie’s privacy interests. Jolie’s legal team also confirmed that it didn’t plan to introduce evidence about her income from those years.

The judge said Pitt could renew the request if that position changed during testimony. Jolie’s attorney, Paul Murphy, argued that Pitt’s request crossed a line. He said, “Mr. Pitt’s unyielding demand for harassing information is just the latest manifestation of his attempts to control her and the narratives in this case.”

Murphy also argued that Jolie had spent years trying to separate her personal and financial affairs from Pitt. He claimed Pitt had attempted to use her departure from Miraval as leverage for an NDA. That allegation concerned claims involving Pitt’s alleged abuse of Jolie and their children. Pitt has denied Jolie’s abuse allegations.

Jolie sold her Miraval interest to Tenute del Mondo in October 2021. The company operated as the wine arm of Stoli Group, ending her direct ownership of the French property. Pitt later sued Jolie, claiming they had agreed not to sell their respective interests without consulting each other. Their dispute over the winery continued despite their divorce settlement in 2024.
