Maura Higgins Reveals Why She Still Doesn’t Trust Herself on ‘DWTS’

Maura Higgins may be doing well on Dancing With the Stars, but she still has doubts about whether she can keep it up. After another strong performance, the reality star admitted she continues to wonder whether she can deliver the same way in the next round.

Maura Higgins admits she still questions whether she can keep delivering on DWTS

Higgins exclusively told Us after Yacht Rock Night on Sept. 29, “I know that I’m doing good, but I’m still like, ‘Am I gonna be able to do it next week?’”

The former Love Island and The Traitors star said the competition still feels new and scary, which makes her want to prove herself. “Because it’s so new and it’s so scary, I just want to do well, and I want to do well for me and Mark [Ballas] and everyone that’s supporting us. I just want to do my best,” she said.

Higgins and pro partner Mark Ballas, 40, performed a quickstep to George Benson’s “Turn Your Love Around.” Judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli gave them a combined score of 22 out of 30, placing the pair in the top half of the leaderboard.

“This week felt so much better,” Higgins said. “I relaxed more, and I didn’t have a freak-out like last week.” She added that she was “singing along to the song while doing the steps.”

Ballas praised her progress, noting improvements in her “coordination” and “musicality,” as well as her ability to stay on time with the music. He added that there is still “lots of room for improvement” because “it’s an art that takes years.”

Ballas also said he could feel Higgins relax during the performance. “Today I could feel you relax. I could feel you take a breath, and I could feel that you were on time.”

Dancing With the Stars airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC, with past episodes available to stream on Disney+.
