The actor explained how watching Maya begin her married life affected him. “It’s really simple: your oldest daughter is getting married,” Hawke said. He then described the emotional impact more directly.
“You’re in a situation that humanity’s been doing forever,” he continued. “And yet your heart is ripping open,” Hawke added.
Maya married musician Christian Lee Hutson in New York City on February 14, 2026. Her father accompanied her during the ceremony as she walked down the aisle. The moment gave Hawke an unexpected perspective on their relationship.
Hawke previously believed walking Maya down the aisle would create a special bond. Instead, he realized they were experiencing the milestone from different perspectives. “The really mysterious part about it is I thought it would be moving,” he explained.
