Jean Smart discusses her concerns about AI and Donald Trump’s stance on regulation

Jean Smart, who appeared at the Emmy Awards 2026, spoke about AI and Donald Trump in an exclusive interview with TMZ.

The actress revealed that she is stressed about the emerging technology, not only because of its impact on acting but also for its effects on the world in general.

Jean Smart spoke about artificial intelligence and strongly disagreed with Donald Trump’s position, which said that there is no need for AI guardrails.

The actress called Trump’s opinion on AI outright wrong. Recently, Trump rejected the need for additional control over AI while Congressmen supported the regulation. According to The Guardian, he said, “The only control or ‘guardrails’ that AI needs is a STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT, and the U.S.A. has that, in spades!”

Trump called the concerns about AI on social media a “HOAX” and “conspiracy.”

While Jean Smart was speaking about her Emmy win, the conversation switched to Trump’s latest remarks on control over artificial intelligence. The actress has strongly opposed Trump’s opinion about artificial intelligence.

At the 2026 Emmys, Jean Smart became the first woman to win the award for all seasons of a show, “Hack.”

She dedicated the win to show creators Lucia Aniello, Jen Statsky, and Paul W. Downs, saying, “It all begins and ends with them. I love you guys so much. What a ride this has been.”

The award was presented to her by Zendaya, who joked, “Just the men stay standing. The girls get to sit down.”

The moment marked a memorable end to Jean Smart’s 2026 Emmy Awards night.
