Emma Roberts explains the unusual inspiration behind her Monique Lhuillier wedding dress and why she has “no regrets”
Roberts married fellow actor Cody John during a private Idaho ceremony in July. For the occaison, she chose a custom Monique Lhuillier wedding dress with a vintage design. The gown featured silk chiffon, a sheer shawl, and a long white veil. Its unusual coloring helped create Roberts’ desired ghostly appearance. She talked about the outfit in the latest episode of Sibling Revelry podcast with Kade Hudson and Oliver Hudson.
“I wanted to look like a haunted doll,” Roberts explained on the podcast. She acknowledged that some people thought her request was “weird.” However, the unusual aesthetic was exactly what she wanted. “I loved it,” she added.
Roberts shared, “The vibe was like vintage, lace, form-fitting.” “It was tea-dipped. It was, um, you know, I wanted to look like a ghost, which people also thought was,” she said, discussing her outfit.
Emma Roberts’ wedding took place at John’s family home in Sun Valley, Idaho. Around 200 guests attended the private celebration. Roberts’ aunt Julia Roberts and her husband Danny Moder were reportedly among them. The actress later described the evening as one of her best nights, “It was, it was magical.”
Her five-year-old son, Rhodes, also played a special role during the ceremony. He walked his mother down the aisle and was reportedly very excited. Roberts remembered the moment as especially sweet. She also recalled another memorable moment involving the night’s final song.
Roberts requested the Goo Goo Dolls’ “Iris” as the final song. She was surprised when guests across different generations sang along. The actress said the moment felt “transcendent.” Her wedding therefore combined personal traditions with her unconventional fashion vision.
Roberts and John have largely kept their relationship private since becoming romantically linked in 2022. They became engaged in 2024 before marrying this summer. Despite her unconventional dress choice, Roberts said the celebration exceeded her expectations. Her “haunted doll” vision ultimately became a memorable part of the day.
