Keen Ruffalo responds after Paramount Skydance accused Mark Ruffalo of invoking antisemitic tropes
When asked what he thought about his father’s recent comments, Keen simply said he was proud of him. Vulture reported that Keen took a long pause before saying, “I love my dad, and I’m extremely proud of the person he is. I think I’m going to leave it there.”
The “Avengers” star recently found himself at the center of a controversy after publicly criticizing the connection between Oracle and the Israeli military. Larry Ellison owns Oracle, while his son David Ellison serves as CEO of Paramount Skydance.
Mark had publicly criticized Sara Catz, Oracle’s executive vice chair and a Paramount board member. He specifically referred to her comments about “profoundly scary technologies” that Oracle had provided to the Israeli government. Mark also described Israeli military actions as “genocide.”
In response, Paramount said it was “troubled when antisemitic tropes are invoked in purported service of a business dispute.” The company added, “This doesn’t deserve a response in kind — and to be clear, we don’t tolerate prejudice of any kind, against anyone.”
Mark then published a lengthy X post pushing back against the accusation. “The accusation that I am antisemitic is appalling and fundamentally dishonest. Criticizing the actions of the Israeli prime minister, a military technology contract, or the executives who supply it is not the same as criticizing Jewish people,” he wrote.
“To be clear, my views come from my own political convictions and should never be interpreted as hostility toward Jewish people, for whom I have deep love and respect.” The actor concluded by saying that his views have been “profoundly shaped” by his Jewish counterparts.
Several celebrities have offered support for Mark, including 170 Jewish artists who published an open letter pushing back against the antisemitism accusations against him.
